Heavy Metals: Feist’s new album ‘has weight’
There’s not another Mushaboom on Metals, the highly anticipated, challenging and ultimately triumphant new record by Feist. The four-time Grammy nominee, who hails from a punk background in Calgary and spent years finding her voice before cute music videos and an Apple commercial helped get her music played at grocery stores, takes a step back from the obvious pop world on her third record. Deeply felt and highly rewarding, the album is less eager to please, and more musical than any of her previous work.
“If you say it sounds more challenging, maybe I just felt more challenged,” the 35-year-old says. “I might say there’s some pretty serious fish hooks on this record, too, but they’re not couched like on The Reminder, where melodies rose 30,000 feet above the rhythm … maybe I was interested in finding a little deeper connection between all of the characteristics of a song.” (Photo: Mary Rozzi)
Fucking *swoooooon*.
For what it’s worth, I think The Circle Married the Line is going to get a lot of play. It’s a fantastic song.
